Evaluations

At Shoreline Therapy Services, our evaluations are designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of your child's unique strengths, areas of need, and the skills that may be impacting their communication, learning, and academic development. We offer individualized evaluations in speech, language, and literacy, with specialized comprehensive evaluations available for children whose needs extend across multiple areas.

Our evaluations go beyond a single standardized test. We use a combination of standardized assessments, informal measures, clinical observation, parent input, and, when appropriate, language and literacy samples to develop a complete picture of your child's skills. This allows us to look beyond surface-level difficulties and identify the underlying factors contributing to your child's challenges.

Speech Evaluations

Speech evaluations assess areas such as articulation, phonological development, speech sound production, intelligibility, motor speech, fluency, and voice, as appropriate. Evaluations help determine whether a child's speech development is progressing as expected and whether intervention may be beneficial. If your child has difficulty producing certain sounds, becomes frustrated when trying to communicate, or is not easily understood by family members or peers, a speech evaluation may be the right next step.

Language Evaluations

Language evaluations examine how a child understands and uses language. Depending on the child's age and concerns, areas may include receptive and expressive language, vocabulary, grammar, narrative skills, comprehension, and social communication. Strong language skills are essential for communication as well as reading, writing, and academic success. If your child has difficulty forming complete, cohesive sentences, experiences word-finding difficulties, struggles to follow verbal directions, or has trouble understanding figurative or more complex language, a language evaluation may be the right next step.

Literacy Evaluations

Literacy evaluations examine the foundational and higher-level skills that support reading and writing. Areas may include phonological awareness, phonics, decoding, word recognition, reading fluency, reading comprehension, spelling, and written expression. We also consider the underlying language skills that contribute to literacy development.

Specialized Comprehensive Evaluations

For children presenting with more complex or overlapping concerns, Shoreline offers specialized comprehensive evaluations that examine the connections between speech, language, and literacy. These evaluations are particularly valuable when a child's difficulties cannot be fully understood by looking at one area in isolation.

A comprehensive evaluation may help identify patterns associated with language-based learning difficulties, dyslexia, developmental language disorders, speech sound disorders, or other communication and literacy concerns. By examining the whole profile rather than focusing on a single area of weakness, we can better understand why a child is struggling and develop targeted, evidence-based recommendations.

Following each evaluation, families receive a detailed written report outlining assessment results, strengths, areas of need, and diagnostic impressions when appropriate. Additionally, a follow up meeting (in-person or virtual) is recommended to review results and recommends so parents can leave with a clear understanding of their child's profile and the next steps for support. Of note, the follow up meeting is included in the comprehensive evaluation price and is not an additional fee.

Do you accept insurance?

Shoreline Therapy Services is a private pay practice and does not accept insurance. Choosing private pay allows therapy and evaluation services to be based on your child's unique needs—not insurance guidelines, visit limits, or eligibility requirements. As a private pay practice, we are able to offer comprehensive evaluations, personalized treatment plans, flexible scheduling, and one-on-one sessions that prioritize meaningful progress.

‍ ‍Forms of Payment?

Shoreline Therapy Services accepts multiple forms of payment for your convenience, including credit card, debit card, cash, and check. A credit card is required to be kept on file to reserve scheduled appointments and ensure timely payment for services. Families may choose to pay at the time of each session or receive a monthly invoice summarizing services provided during the previous month. Monthly invoices are due upon receipt unless otherwise discussed. For families seeking reimbursement through their insurance provider, a superbill can be provided upon request for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Please note that reimbursement is not guaranteed and is dependent on your individual insurance plan.

In-Home vs. Clinic Based Prices?

Shoreline Therapy Services offers both clinic-based and in-home therapy options based on availability and your child's individual needs. Clinic-based sessions are provided at our Point Pleasant office and are available without an additional travel fee. In-home services may be available for families who prefer therapy in their child's natural environment. A travel fee is applied to in-home sessions to account for travel time and expenses associated with providing services outside of the clinic setting. In-home availability is limited and determined based on scheduling, location, and clinician availability.
